She is a media-communication consultant, specializing in the field of health and development. Trained as a media professional, she was one of the pioneers of television news in India through her 14-year career with Doordarshan. For the next 20 years, she worked with the United Nations as Information Officer with the UNICEF India office and, subsequently, as Regional Information Officer for the eleven countries of WHO's South East Asia Regional office. Harsaran now works as a freelance consultant - making health-related documentaries and expanding her learning through exploring wider spiritual and religious issues.
